I.3 Agency & Self-Efficacy – Capacity Awareness

Capacity Awareness is your ability to notice when your mental, emotional, and operational bandwidth is shifting. It’s the skill of spotting early signs of strain before they grow.

SHIFT:

Micro Habit: The One-Minute Capacity Check-In

Ask yourself:

“Where is my capacity right now — steady, stretched, or slipping?”

If slipping → slow or remove one thing
If stretched → simplify one thing
If steady → continue as you are

10-second grounding cue

Take one long exhale — it resets your system.

DO:

One Action (choose one)
  • Remove one non-essential task

  • Send one clarifying message

  • Delay one item to tomorrow

  • Delegate one small task

  • Say: “I need a moment to think”

Small actions strengthen agency and steadiness.

TOOL: 1

Bandwidth Barometer

Helps you notice your current cognitive, emotional and operational capacity in the moment. It provides a quick self-check so you can make small adjustments before clarity drops or strain escalates.

TOOL: 2

Pattern-Spotting Triangle

Helps you notice repeating patterns across your behaviour, workload and emotional responses. It supports early awareness of what is changing beneath the surface, so you can act before pressure builds.

REFLECT:

  • What was one early sign my capacity shifted today?

  • How did I respond, or how could I respond next time?

  • What helped me regain steadiness?

Reflection strengthens awareness and improves decision-making.

e.g., My capacity slipped at 1pm when I rushed a conversation.

REPEAT:

Make it a habit

Repeat the Pattern Spotting Triangle at the same point each day for one week.

Repetition builds resilience literacy and strengthens steadiness.

Capacity Awareness is the starting point for steadier days and clearer decisions. Small shifts make a big difference.
