You’re Allowed to Rest: A Holiday Reset for School Staff

Short Read – Week 4 of 4

You’ve reached the end of an intense, emotional, demanding term.
A term full of pressures, spoken and unspoken, that most people outside education never see.

So let’s say this clearly:

You’re allowed to rest now.

You don’t need to earn it by finishing everything first.
You don’t need to justify it.
You don’t need to keep going when your body is telling you to stop.

Rest isn’t optional in this profession.
Rest is recovery.

The work will still be there in January.
The expectations will still be there.
But you need to arrive with something left in your tank.

Here’s a gentle boundary for the start of the break:
If you can, don’t open your laptop for the first few days.

Let the term end before you think about the next one.
Let your mind settle.
Let your energy return at its own pace.

You’ve carried enough this term.
Now it’s time to put things down.

Wishing you a restful, restorative holiday.

We’ll be back in January with something that supports you, not burdens you.
