The 15 Day Time and Focus Challenge
A calm, reflective journey to help school leaders regain clarity, protect wellbeing, and make time matter.
In school leadership, time can feel like your scarcest resource. Between meetings, priorities, and the endless to-do list, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. But sustainable leadership isn’t about doing more — it’s about leading with focus, calm, and intention.
That’s where The 15 Days of Time and Focus Challenge comes in.
This simple, reflective challenge invites you to take five minutes a day to pause, think, and reset. Each small action helps you build momentum toward greater balance and purpose.
Whether you’re starting a new term, approaching the end of one, or simply ready to reclaim your time, this challenge is designed to guide you gently — one intentional step at a time.
It’s time to work smarter, lead calmer, and make your time matter.
How to Use the Challenge
- Take five minutes each day for reflection.
- Read each prompt below and complete the small action suggested.
- Use a notebook, journal, or leadership planner to capture insights.
- Share your reflections with others using #PeopleFirstChallenge or #15DaysOfFocus.
Day 1 – Set Your Intention
- Start by deciding how you want to feel this term — calm, purposeful, accomplished.
- Write one clear intention that captures how you want to lead.
- Your intention shapes your attention.
Day 2 – The Power of Pause
- Block ten minutes in your diary with the title ‘Pause and Think’.
- Protect it like any other meeting — this is your leadership thinking time.
- Stillness creates space for better decisions.
Day 3 – The Eisenhower Sort
- Look at your to-do list and label each task: Urgent/Important, Important/Not Urgent, Urgent/Not Important, or Neither.
- Focus today on completing one ‘Important but Not Urgent’ task.
- Proactive beats reactive every time.
Day 4 – The 4D Filter
- Before starting today’s work, ask: Do I need to Do, Defer, Delegate, or Delete this task?
- Simplify your list — less clutter, more clarity.
- Every “no” creates space for a more meaningful “yes.”
Day 5 – Your Top 3
- Write your top three priorities for this week — the things that will make the biggest difference.
- Start with one and aim to finish it before midday.
- Progress, not perfection.
Day 6 – The 10-Minute Reset
- Take a short break between meetings or lessons. Step outside, stretch, or breathe.
- No multitasking — just a moment to pause.
- You think better when your mind has space.
Day 7 – The Time–Energy Check
- Ask yourself: When am I at my best?
- Schedule your most important work during those high-energy times.
- Small adjustments create big improvements.
Day 8 – Declutter the Diary
- Review the rest of your term.
- Can you shorten, combine, or cancel one meeting that doesn’t add value?
- Protecting your time protects your team’s focus too.
Day 9 – The Value vs Effort Quick Win
- Find one high-value, low-effort task you can complete today — something that clears space or makes someone’s day.
- Celebrate small wins — they build momentum.
Day 10 – Reflect Before You React
- Before replying to your next email or request, pause for ten seconds.
- Ask: Does this need my time right now?
- Intentional leadership starts with thoughtful responses.
Day 11 – Protect One Boundary
- Leave work on time once this week — and resist the urge to ‘just finish one more thing’.
- Rest is part of the work, not a reward for it.
Day 12 – The Meeting Purpose Test
- Before your next meeting, clarify the purpose: Inform, Decide, Solve, or Connect.
- Meetings without purpose drain energy and time.
- Clarity before conversation.
Day 13 – Reflect and Reset
Take five minutes to note:
- What went well this term?
- What felt heavy or draining?
- What will I do differently next term?
Reflection turns experience into progress.
Day 14 – The Appreciation Audit
- Write down three people who made your work easier.
- Thank one of them today — a short message makes a big difference.
- Gratitude strengthens connection and morale.
Day 15 – Celebrate and Let Go
- You’ve led, supported, and persevered.
- Take a deep breath, acknowledge your achievements, and give yourself permission to rest.
- You’ve earned your calm.
Closing Reflection
As you complete The 15 Days of Time and Focus Challenge, take a moment to look back at what’s changed.
- Which habit made the biggest difference?
- Where do you feel calmer, more focused, or more intentional?
- What will you carry forward into the rest of the year?
Leadership balance doesn’t come from doing everything — it comes from doing the right things with clarity and purpose.
Here’s to leading with focus, calm, and confidence — one intentional day at a time.
